Pixolor Privacy Policy

Last updated 7 November 2026

The short version

Pixolor needs no account, and what it captures from your screen never leaves your device. The free version shows Google ads, which in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are personalized only if you agree. You choose in Settings whether usage statistics and crash reports are sent.

Who We Are

Pixolor is made by EmberMitre Limited ("we", "us"), the data controller for everything described here. This page covers the Pixolor app for Android.

Some things are the same for everything we make, and are set out once in our main privacy policy rather than repeated here: our registered address, your rights and how to complain, and where your data goes when it leaves the UK or EEA. If you have a question about any of it, please contact us.

What We Collect, and Why

Pixolor needs no account, and what it captures from your screen never leaves your device.

Screen capture

Pixolor uses the device's screen recording capability to read the pixels under the circle, anywhere on screen and not only inside the app. Android asks your permission first, and shows the "Cast" icon in the status bar while recording is taking place. No image data is sent from the device. The most recent capture is kept in memory, so that palettes can still be made from it, and is gone when the app closes. It only goes anywhere if you share it yourself.

Color history

The colors you pick are kept on the device. Like other app data, they may be included in your phone's own Google backup. Removing a color, or uninstalling the app, deletes it.

Ads

The free version of Pixolor shows banner ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure them, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, your IP address and information about the ads you see. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, you are asked when you first open the app whether ads may be personalized, and they are personalized only if you agree. Elsewhere, Google may personalize them unless you turn that off in your device's ad settings. How Google uses this information is described in Google's own explanation. Lawful basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for personalized ads, and legitimate interest in funding the free version (Art. 6(1)(f)) for the rest.

Usage statistics and crash reports

Pixolor uses Firebase Analytics for usage statistics, which can include the device's advertising ID, and Firebase Crashlytics for error reporting. You choose what is sent under Settings, "Help improve Pixolor": usage and errors, errors only, or nothing. Lawful basis: legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and keeping it reliable (Art. 6(1)(f)).

If you buy something

Removing ads is a one-time purchase through Google Play, which takes the payment. Your card details go to Google and never to us. The app is told whether you have bought it and remembers that on the device. There is no account and nothing is stored on a server of ours. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)).

If you contact us

If you email us from the app, we receive your email address and whatever the message contains. That includes a diagnostic log if you have turned one on and attach it; the log is otherwise kept only on the device. Lawful basis: legitimate interest in answering people who write to us (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Who We Share With

We do not sell your data. It reaches nobody beyond the providers Pixolor needs:

  • Google (AdMob) — the ads in the free version
  • Google (Firebase) — usage statistics and error reporting, as you have chosen in Settings
  • Google Play — distributing the app, and taking the payment if you remove ads

That is the whole list. How your data is protected when it leaves the UK or EEA is set out in our main privacy policy.

How Long We Keep It

  • Color history — on your device, until you remove it or uninstall the app.
  • Screen captures — in memory only, until the app closes.
  • Usage statistics — event data for 14 months, and the user-level records behind it for two. Crash reports follow Firebase's own 90-day limit, which is theirs to set rather than ours.
  • Ads — Google keeps what it collects for ads under its own privacy policy.
  • Purchases — Google Play keeps its own record of a transaction you made with it, under its own policies, and that is not ours to delete.
  • Messages you send us — as described in our main privacy policy.

Your Choices

  • Ad personalization — where the law requires it, Pixolor's Settings has a "Privacy settings" entry for changing your choice at any time. On any Android device, you can also reset or delete your advertising ID in the device's own Settings, under Google, then Ads.
  • Usage statistics and crash reports — Settings, "Help improve Pixolor".
  • No ads at all — remove them with a one-time purchase.

Your rights over your data, and how to exercise them, are set out in our main privacy policy.

Children

Pixolor is a tool for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal data, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes To This Policy

We will update this page whenever Pixolor's practices change, and revise the date at the top. A material change will be more than a quiet edit.
